It was built in 1812. The fantastically carved 84 pillars in the temple are a sight to behold. In the premises of the temple, there are many ancient shrines and houses that reflect intricate works of stone.

2 HoursUmaid Bhawan

This embellished palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 20th century A.D. It is also known as Chittar Palace due to the use of local chittar stone in its construction. A segment of the palace has been transformed in a hotel and remaining part as a museum. This display model of aeroplanes, weapons, antique clocks and bob watches, priceless crockery and hunting trophies. Both sections retain the ambience of royal splendour.

2.5 HoursMeharangarh Fort

The entrance from Loha Pole is marked with sati handprints. Marks of mortar balls fired by the invaders can still be seen on the fort walls (in the form of black coloured marks). The palace within is decorated with long intricately carved panels and latticed windows elegantly created from red stonework. Among those important are- Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace) or Darbar-e-Khas, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana.

Jaswant Thada of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It is a 19th century royal cenotaph built in commemoration of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. The son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, Maharaja Sardar Singh, in the memory of his father, built the Jaswant Thada. Jaswant Thada is an example of architectural brilliance in India. It is a white marble memorial, built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. The carving shows the genius of the sculptors.

The ‘Mandore gardens’, with its charming collection of temples and memorials, and its high rock terraces, is another major attraction. The gardens house the Chhatris (cenotaphs) of many rulers of the erstwhile princely state of Marwar. Prominent among them is the chhatri of Maharaja Ajit Singh, built in 1793. The Mandore Gardens also house a government museum, a ‘Hall of Heroes’ and a temple to 33 crore Gods.

Veer Durgadas Smarak is located on Masooria Hill, from where an excellent panorama of the city can be taken. A massive 36 feet high equestrian statue of the great Veer Durgadas Rathore, a renowned personality in the Marwar Court and the protector of the kingdom, stands here. The memorial was inaugurated by the honorable Prime Minister of India at that time, Shir Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on 3 October, 1998.

Mahamandir literally means “a massive temple.” This temple complex and monastery was constructed in 1812 for the priests dedicated to the service of the Jodhpur royal court. Most of the priests who were in employment at the Marwar royal court were descendants of the Nath family. These warrior priests made arrangements to support the royal family in times of war and other emergencies.
