Old part of city is popular tourist destination, featuring many beautiful palaces, forts and temples. Jodhpur is also referred as the Blue City, due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Sardar Market and Clock tower very famous places in old city. Clock tower is a prominent land mark. But main attraction is the Sadar Market. The market has kept alive the old ‘haat bazaar’ culture. Sadar market is a lively, bustling, colorful market which runs from Sojati Gate to the Clock tower (which is late 19th century).

Itinerary

1 HourUmaid Bhawan

This embellished palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 20th century A.D. It is also known as Chittar Palace due to the use of local chittar stone in its construction. A segment of the palace has been transformed in a hotel and remaining part as a museum. This display model of aeroplanes, weapons, antique clocks and bob watches, priceless crockery and hunting trophies. Both sections retain the ambience of royal splendour.

2 HoursMeharangarh Fort

The entrance from Loha Pole is marked with sati handprints. Marks of mortar balls fired by the invaders can still be seen on the fort walls (in the form of black coloured marks). The palace within is decorated with long intricately carved panels and latticed windows elegantly created from red stonework. Among those important are- Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace) or Darbar-e-Khas, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana.

1 HourJaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It is a 19th century royal cenotaph built in commemoration of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. The son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, Maharaja Sardar Singh, in the memory of his father, built the Jaswant Thada. Jaswant Thada is an example of architectural brilliance in India. It is a white marble memorial, built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. The carving shows the genius of the sculptors.

The ‘Mandore gardens’, with its charming collection of temples and memorials, and its high rock terraces, is another major attraction. The gardens house the Chhatris (cenotaphs) of many rulers of the erstwhile princely state of Marwar. Prominent among them is the chhatri of Maharaja Ajit Singh, built in 1793. The Mandore Gardens also house a government museum, a ‘Hall of Heroes’ and a temple to 33 crore Gods.
